Another advantage of space based solar power is that with the use of satellites, it would follow the sun with very little down time. Right now the only thing that is holding back technical advances for this form of solar power as an alternative is the cost of research and development. At the rate of current available funding, space based solar power will not be available until the year 2040. Should more funding become available, research and development can carry on at a much faster rate.
